Montessori education was developed in Italy by Dr. Maria Montessori. She originated a method of teaching that allows children to discover the world on their own. Students work is primarily self-directed in multi-age classrooms. Instructors observe each student's progress. When they see that a student is ready to move forward, a higher-level course is offered. In this way, instructors are empowered as leaders and able to guide their students through an effective method of learning.
